This course in 30 lectures will provide an introduction to symplectic
geometry, with
a slight bias towards applications in mathematical physics. It
is primarily targetted at
students in both Mathematics and Physics at UJ who have a basic
grasp of differential
geometry. The lectures will be held in English.

The main reference for the course will be the textbook "Lectures on Symplectic Geometry"
by Ana Cannas da Silva
(2nd edition, Springer Verlag, 2008), which is available
online.
Materials for the lectures (will be updated as the course
progresses):
This semester, the
Mathematical Physics Seminar at UJ will include several talks that are
suitable (and highly recommendend) for the audience of the Symplectic Geometry course.
