Symplectic Geometry

    Jagiellonian University, Cracow

    Second Semester 2009/10

    hypercube star

This course in 30 lectures will provide an introduction to symplectic geometry, with
a slight bias towards applications in mathematical physics. It is primarily targetted at
students in both Mathematics and Physics at UJ who have a basic grasp of differential
geometry. The lectures will be held in English.

    Lecturer: Nuno Romão

Time: Wednesdays 16:00-16:45 and 17:00-17:45 (sine tempore)
Room: 1103 (left corridor on this map), Institute of Mathematics, Ruczaj campus

    First lectures: 03.III.2010
NO LECTURES on 24.III.2010; instead there will be two
    Extra lectures: Tuesday 27.IV.2010, 8:15-9:00 and 9:15-10:00, room 1103.
NO LECTURES on 14.IV.2010 due to the University solemn mass service at 17:00
in intention of the victims of the plane crash at Smolensk; instead, there will be two
    Extra lectures: Tuesday 11.V.2010, 8:15-9:00 and 9:15-10:00, room 1103.
NO LECTURES on 19.V.2010 due to the Vistula full flood; instead, there will be two
Final (optional) lectures: Wednesday 30.VI.2010, 16:00-16:45 and 17:00-17:45, room 0094.

The main reference for the course will be the textbook "Lectures on Symplectic Geometry"
by Ana Cannas da Silva (2nd edition, Springer Verlag, 2008), which is available online.

  • This semester, the Mathematical Physics Seminar at UJ will include several talks that are
suitable (and highly recommendend) for the audience of the Symplectic Geometry course.
