    Gauged vortices and localisation I

    Abstract:
The vortex equations describe field configurations in a U(1) gauge theory on a
Riemann surface Σ. Their moduli spaces support natural Kähler structures,
defined in terms of integrals of field configurations over Σ. In this first talk
(of a series of two), I will review how these integrals localise onto a finite locus
of vortex cores, by a mechanism which is still rather poorly understood. This
allows one to obtain formulae for the the Kähler structures in terms of the moduli,
which have been very useful in the study of gauged vortices. I expect to have
time to discuss some preliminary applications.
